Selfish

It was yours to take. But the void you left engulfs eternity.
I advocate for controlling your own life, but not like this.
It hit me like a fly splattering the grill of a semi. Dropped me flat.
My lungs deflated. Puttered like a car running out of gas.
I tried to catch my breath, while you took your last.
You ripped out my heart the day you made yours stop.
The hole you made didn’t stop at you, it ripped through me,
I failed you, but the joy you took will be enough punishment for a lifetime.
When you ended all of you, you ended the piece of me I gave you.
You leave me with this ache, I know you hurt so much longer.
I forgive you for taking my best friend away.
While yours to take, oh how selfish it was.
