The Yellow Star

I was a single star in a field of billions alike:
All yellow, blue, purple, red and orange
We all shined dimly in the night sky
Twinkling just outside your milky way
I saw inside one time to witness your glow
Brighter than any other star I’ve known
I was so mesmerized by the sight of you
That I mustered up every gas, every particle
That kept me dimly lit in the sky
And I forced all my atoms, all elements together
To become a giant
I hoped you might notice me,
Even for a moment,
While we drifted along this field of space glitter
And you did, much to my surprise
And you enlightened me
With every piece, every gas, every atom, every particle
That made up your light.
I sang a song of praise in your ear
And basked in your undying warmth
But, inevitably and undoubtedly, you had consumed me
Your warmth was more than I could bear
For, my darling, you are the sun
I never stood a chance against you
For even as a giant, you always were meant to outshine me
And now, as I drift along the black as a white dwarf
With no glow, dimmer than any other star
Know the only thing I regret
Was letting my desire to be brighter
Destroy your peace
Know I will always love you, and love
Your every sunspot, every ray of sunlight
Even as a black dwarf with no light
I was just a yellow star in your sky;
You will always be the sun in mine
